The moral dilemma of Christmas consumerism…

A message from Sarah and Josh at Indigo, the shop for natural, fairly traded clothes and more on the Cowley Road:

“So here we are again, the season of festivity and cheer is upon us…

It’s always a bit of a moral dilemma for us, running a shop and the whole consumerism thing at Xmas. Making gifts is lovely but we don’t all have the time. So it’s for us to question why we are buying Xmas gifts and if we chose to, then if we buy local, hand made, fair trade… it does makes a difference, its supporting a much healthier retail environment. We can avoid the stress of town centre and have a more connected experience than shopping online and a larger % of cost of the item goes to the producer. Giving Xmas presents is actually a lovely thing to do when we feel a connection to it.

We are donating 2% of our December takings this year to our chosen Local Charity, Barracks Lane Community Garden. If you’re not aware of them, here is a link to their website Barracks Lane Community Garden

Wishing you all a relaxing and enjoyable Xmas Shopping time!
