Fairtrade Fortnight 2014 – What’s happening in Oxford

Are you getting ready for Fairtrade Fortnight? The theme of the fortnight is “Stick with Foncho to make bananas fair,” and there are all kinds of wonderful fruit-themed ideas for events on the Fairtrade Fortnight website.

Here are some events that are already planned for the Oxford area.  If you’d like to join in with these, come along! And if you’re planning your own event, let us know so that we can share the news with others who are interested. More info on each event will be posted closer to the time.

WHAT’S ON IN AND AROUND OXFORD

7 February – Botley – Midcounties Co-operative Fairtrade Event
11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Co-op in the Westway Shopping Centre

7 – 8 February – Said Business School – Oxford Climate Forum
Climate change is a big issue for many Fairtrade producers. Find out more about the issues and possible responses. Our own Judith Condor Vidal will be part of a session on Sustainable Fashion. More information here.

24 February to 9 March: Fairtrade Trail at the Oxford University Botanical Gardens
Follow the Fairtrade Trail and find out more about the plants involved in Fairtrade products.

26 February – Oxford Brookes University – “How can universities go beyond Fairtrade?”
Panel debate chaired by the Lord Mayor of Oxford, with representatives from the Fairtrade Foundation, the Environmental Assn of Universities and Colleges, Oxfam, People and Planet, and the inventors of the accreditation scheme. Main Lecture Theatre, 6:00 pm. 27 February – Jericho Community Centre – Babies and Toddlers Fairtrade Event
Babies and toddlers event … where parents get the treat of Fairtrade refreshments

28 February – Cowley Centre – Midcounties Co-operativeFairtrade Event
11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Co-op in Templars Square.

28 February – Headington Farmers’ Market – Fairtrade Doughnuts and Coffee
Join Oxford notables in enjoying a special Fairtrade banana and toffee doughnut from Pippin Doughnuts … and some Grumpy Mule Fairtrade coffee from The Windmill Fair Trade shop

1 March – Fair Trade at St Michael’s, Cornmarket
“Meet the banana event,” with banana chips, banana-related activities, vouchers and more. 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, outside the shop.

1 March – Exclusive Roots (St Giles) – Fairtrade Tea and Coffee Tasting
Come join us for Ethiopian coffee, Malawian tea and Fairtrade banana cake at Exclusive Roots! 11am – 4pm

3 March – Jericho Community Centre – Fairtrade Fortnight Rendez-vous
Fairtrade tea, coffee and sugar for all, and a small exhibition/film on Fairtrade bananas. 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm

4 March – Kidlington –  Midcounties Co-operative Fairtrade event with cooking demonstration
11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Co-op on the High Street. Come along to find out how Fairtrade can make a difference to your cooking.

5 March – Town Hall – Mad Hatter Tea Party
Celebrating our recertification as a Fairtrade City. More information to come shortly …

6 March – Jericho Community Centre – Babies and Toddlers Fairtrade Event

8 March – Headington (Windmill Fair Trade Shop, London Road) – “Breakfast in a Bag”
The first 50 Windmill customers this Saturday will be given a Fairtrade ‘breakfast in a bag’  Now that sounds like a good idea!

8 March – Jericho Community Centre – Trading for Development Event
Fair Trade fashion company Trading for Development will be partnering an event with Leyla Okhai, an independent Neal’s Yard Consultant. She will be running an organic and holistic beauty workshop. She will also be giving mini hand massages, aromatherapy advice and tips on getting ready for spring. To book contact Judith at info@tradingfordevelopment.co.uk. Event is from 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm.

8 March – Exclusive Roots, St Giles – Fairtrade beauty 

A representative will be coming from our Organic Skincare range to give free advice, samples and demos. Customers will also receive a free gift when spending over £10 on the range!
