Fairtrade Shop Seeks New Voluntary Director

October 30, 2016

Fairtrade at St Michaels is Oxford’s leading retail outlet for fair trade goods. By selling a wide range of beautiful craft and high-quality food products made by small-scale producers and farmers from all over the world we make a real difference to their quality of life and to the sustainability of their communities.
Based in Cornmarket since 2003, the shop is run profitably on the co-operative model, underpinned by a number of shareholders, and steered by a small board of voluntary directors. It employs four part-time staff supported by a large group of enthusiastic volunteers. Profits are ploughed back into the wider fair trade movement. In the last decade £45,000 has been distributed to a range of projects aimed at enhancing the lives and business opportunities of poor people.
More detail is available on our website http://www.fairtradeatstmichaels.co.uk
The board meets monthly and provides strategic direction, financial oversight, personnel management and marketing support. We are looking for one or two new directors to contribute to our part of the fair trade movement who will be happy to work in a highly consultative and warmly supportive environment. Professional experience in marketing, HR or retail would be advantages as would the willingness to contribute to the operational running of the shop on an occasional basis.
